Windows Disc Clean

Keeping your computer running quickly requires little effort. There are a few tuning programs which help keep your computer running efficiently. One of these programs is the "Disk Cleanup" program, which is included in the Windows operating system (OS). There are a number of ways to start this program. You can go through the Start menu items to open this program, or you can do the short method below for all versions of Windows. When you are finished with the following activity move to the link titled "BACK" at the bottom of this page to go to the "Simple Windows Lessons" web page.

1. Press and hold down the Windows key and hit the letter r to bring up the Windows "Run" command. You can do this from the Windows Desktop, or anywhere in Windows, including open programs.

2. Type "cleanmgr" (without the quotes).

3. Hit the Enter key one time and a box will pop up titled "Disk Cleanup-drive selection," and you will be on the "OK" button. Drive C will probably be marked.

4. Shift Tab one time to see which drive is marked. If you are on "Drive C" and want a different drive, down arrow to the drive you want. If you want "Drive C" which is your hard drive, do not arrow down.

5. Hit the Tab key one time to go to the "OK" button.

6. Hit the Spacebar one time and another box titled "Disk Cleanup" will come up and scan the drive you selected. Do nothing and after a few minutes a third box will come up.

7. The third box that comes up for a disk cleanup is a box with a list of items with check boxes beside each item. It is titled "Disk Cleanup for (C:) or whatever the letter of the drive you selected.

8. Down arrow through the list of items that can be cleaned, and use your Spacebar to check or uncheck any items you want or do not want included.

9. Hit the Tab key again-and-again until you get to the "OK" button.

10. Hit the Spacebar one time on the "OK" button and the disk clean program will clean the junk files from your computer, making your computer faster.
